GUILTY VERDICT IN NURSING HOME RAPE TRIAL

Jury rejects "consensual sex" defense

A jury on Wednesday found Momodou Jallow guilty of one count of rape and one count of attempted rape of two patients at a local nursing home. The crimes occurred in late 2005 and early 2006. The case was heard this week in Johnson County District Court in Olathe.

Assistant District Attorney Chris McMullin prosecuted the case.  He is the Section Chief of the Child Abuse / Sex Crimes Unit at the Johnson County DA’s office.

Jallow was a Certified Nurse Assistant at the nursing home.  He was arrested when a patient at the facility disclosed to her husband that someone matching Jallow’s description had raped her.  DNA established Jallow as a suspect, and he later admitted having sexual intercourse with the patient. A second patient came forward after Jallow was arrested and disclosed that he had attempted to rape her as well. Both women testified at the trial.

"Justice must be served on those who would harm the most vulnerable in our society," said District Attorney Phill Kline.

During the trial, Jallow claimed the sex was consensual, but all 12 jurors rejected that claim after hearing testimony and examining the evidence.
