Traffic Diversion Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What is diversion?
A. The diversion program is intended to give a 'second chance' to offenders who commit a relatively minor offense. There is no guarantee diversion will be granted in any given case.
Q. What does diversion do?
A. Diversion will allow you to keep the traffic ticket from appearing on your record.
Q. Can I have diversion if my ticket has more than one charge on it?
A. Yes. However, ALL charges on the ticket must be eligible for the mail in program and you cannot currently be on diversion for any one of the charges listed on your ticket.
Q. If my ticket has more than one charge, can I divert part of the ticket and pay a fine on the remaining charges?
A. No, we do not split tickets.
Q. How will I know I am granted diversion?
A. After your application has been processed, you will receive an agreement and a letter via mail. You will sign and date the agreement and return it along with the monies outlined in the letter.
Q. What will my diversion fee be?
A. Diversion fees vary in accordance with the level and number of offenses cited. Please call 715-3011 for further information.
Q. What is the citation number?
A. The citation number to use is the lower of the two numbers preprinted in red or black located on the right side of your ticket.
Q. What is involved in being on diversion for a traffic ticket?
A. You will need to refrain from getting a traffic citation for the next 6 months for the same offense(s) for which you are currently on diversion.
