Specialized Traffic Diversion
Specialized Traffic Diversions are determined on a case by case basis and require an application process. The Specialized Traffic Diversion application is different than the application for the mail-in traffic diversion.
Specialized Traffic Diversion ELIGIBLE Offenses Include:
- Driving While Suspended
- Reckless Driving
- Leaving the Scene of an Accident
- Fleeing and Eluding
- Furnishing Alcohol to a Minor
- Furnishing Tobacco to a Minor
- Minor in Possession/Consumption of Alcohol
If you are also charged with a registration or insurance offense, you MUST bring proof of current valid registration or current valid proof of insurance at the time of submitting your application and $30 fee. Insurance must be a six month prepaid policy. Your application will not be accepted without the required documentation.
If your ticket involved an ACCIDENT, you must bring proof of insurance and proof that you have been released from liability. This includes proof that you are not responsible for damages or that you have paid for the damages.
Applications for Driving While Suspended will be denied if you have a prior conviction for Driving While Suspended in the past 12 months or if you are unable to get your driving privileges reinstated within 60 days.

If you have a commercial driver’s license (CDL) you are not eligible for traffic diversion, regardless of whether you were driving a commercial vehicle at the time of ticket.
Visit the Johnson County District Attorney Diversion Office located on the 4th floor of the Johnson County District Courthouse to pay your application fee and fill out an application OR appear in court on your court date. The Diversion Office is open Monday thru Friday 8:30 a.m.until 3:30 p.m.
All applications require a $30 application fee. The application fee may be paid by exact cash or money order only. No checks will be accepted for the application fee.
After you have properly submitted an application for specialized traffic diversion, the diversion office will mail you a letter within 30 days with instructions on how to proceed.
You MUST continue to make ALL court appearances while the diversion process is pending.
